Step one:  Get informed: read about certification

It is important to read all the related materials in our web pages before applying for certification, including the criteria and requirements as well as the costs of applying for and maintaining certification. Each person needs to decide if Certification is appropriate for them and form a view as to whether they may meet the requirements Unsuccessful applications are not refunded as the fee covers the costs of the assessment. Detailed information is available in the sub-pages of "OHS Professional certification" in the menu on the left of this page.

Step two: Depending on the type of certification you are seeking, download guides to completing reports, and report templates

In addition to completing the online application form for certification, if you are applying for Practitioner, Professional or Chartered Professional certification, different forms are required to be completed and uploaded with your application. Sample reports and report templates for each are in the links below under each category.

Certified Generalist OHS Trainee

Certified Generalist OHS Trainee  

You have a Diploma/Advanced Diploma in OHS/WHS but do not have 3 years experience.

To achieve trainee certification, applicants are not required to complete practice reports. Once certified, you have access to participate in the SIA CPD program, and to mentoring on your pathway toward full certification as an OHS Practitioner.  


Certified Generalist OHS Graduate

Certified Generalist OHS Graduate  

You have a university level (AQF 7 or 8) OHS qualification (Graduate Certificate on its own does not apply) but do not have 3 years experience.

To achieve graduate certification, applicants are not required to complete practice reports. Once certified, you have access to the CPD program, as well as access to mentoring on your pathway toward full certification as an OHS Professional.


Certified Generalist OHS Practitioner

 

You have:

(a)a minimum of 3 a minimum equivalent full time experience in an OHS role  and

(b) a Diploma/Advanced Diploma in OHS/WHS 

Your application includes the requirement to complete a practitioner portfolio report.

Certified Generalist OHS Professional

Certified Generalist OHS Professional  

You have :

(a) a minimum of 3 years equivalent full time experience in an OHS role; and

(b) a university level (AQF 7-9) OHS qualification (Graduate Certificate on its own does not apply)

Your application includes the requirement to complete a professional practice report.

Certified Chartered Generalist OHS Professional

Certified Chartered Generalist OHS Professional  

You have:

(a) 10 years organisational experience including a minimum 5 years OHS  AND 3 years working directly as a peer with or consultant to senior managers;  and

(b) a Bachelor or Graduate Diploma in OHS plus a Masters in another discipline, OR a masters in OHS OR a Doctoral qualification in an OHS related area.

Your application includes the requirement to complete a reflective journal.
