Chemical, Biological and Laboratory Safety‏ Special Interest Group

This special interest group will play an important role in promoting the Safety Instititute of Australia Inc. as a key player in the development of National Standards and Codes relating to chemical, biological and laboratory safety.

The role of this group is:

  • Ensuring that the Institute is recoginised by the Australian community as a reference authority on technical aspects of chemical, biological and laboratory safety.
  • Providing a means for the Institute to input to changing legislation, standards and codes of practice on chemical, biological and laboratory safety
  • Assisting SIA members to maintain currency of professional knowledge relating to chemical, biological and laboratory safety
Specific activities of this Special interest group include:
  • In cohort with the SIA Chief Executive Officer, development of co-ordinated SIA responses to national drafts (e.g. from Standards Australia, ASCC and other National Government bodies and departments) and to any National Committees of Inquiry regarding chemical, biological and laboratory safety
  • Dissemination of information (including information on, and seeking responses to, National drafts) to the membership. This should be coordinated through the SIA Chief Executive Officer and achieved  through broadcast emails, the SIA website and articles in the SIA printed and enews media
  • Provide anannual simmary report of activities for inclusion in the SIA National Annual Report to members. This report is due in July for the previous fincancial year
